- By the end of the 21st Century, temperatures are predicted to be between 1.7°C and 4°C higher than today. Should the ongoing warming be over 3°C, it is feared the ice sheet in Greenland could melt altogether.
- Sea levels have risen by 17cm in the last 100 years. This is mainly the result of warmer ocean temperatures together with the melting of Arctic ice floes and mountain glaciers which contribute to rising water levels.
- One hundred years from now, the oceans will be 18cm to 38cm higher than today!!
- In 2005, tourism accounted for the creation of 1307 million tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) globally = 5% of all world CO2 emissions.
- Switzerland produces 13.2 tonnes per head of CO2 emissions annually.
- Temperature increases by up to 1.8°C in winter
- Increased winter precipitation and reduced summer precipitation
- Higher snowlines
- Deep level melting of summer permafrost
- Greatly increased stone slides and rock falls in summer
- Changes in the landscape
