Opportunities and risks due to climate change in Adelboden

Studies conducted by the Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute (GDI 2007) suggest that in the future guests will be older, more mature, more caring, more aware of values and made up of more females.
For this reason, the following areas are continuing to grow in significance for the tourist industry: health, beauty, productivity and sustainability.

All in all, it is assumed that tourists of the future will react with sensitivity to climate issues and adjust their behaviour accordingly. As a result, the opportunities for Swiss tourism lie in the attraction of proximity and simplicity.
For the Alpine regions, the following opportunities and risks now arise: A guarantee of winter snow in the high-lying regions will be a positive plus, whereas in low-lying regions uncertain conditions will constitute a definite risk.
In summer, the pleasant Alpine climate offers uncompromised rejuvenation and thereby adds to the attraction of mountain locations. Extreme weather conditions present a particular danger during the winter. Regular natural catastrophes would damage the reputation of a resort and lead to an increased sense of insecurity.
Conclusion:
It is especially important for Alpine regions to place greater emphasis on summer tourism. In the case of Adelboden Tourism, this is being achieved largely through Alpine Wellness.
Alpine Wellness covers not only the positive health benefits of a mountain region and climate, but also the use of Alpine materials in architecture and room furnishings, Alpine gastronomy and the rediscovery of Alpine medicaments. Adelboden was the first accredited Alpine Wellness resort in Switzerland.
In addition, plans are going ahead for Alpenbad Adelboden. This future attraction will ensure that both summer tourism and health tourism are further developed.
