"Horäschlittä-Renä" - the traditional spectacle on World Cup mountain, Chüenisbärgli.

A traditional (and not without risk) spectacle takes place on Sunday 19 February at this unique sledging event in Adelboden when over 100 two-man teams steer their way down Chuenisbärgli to the finishing post at breakneck speeds. Not as fast or as elegant as the downhill skiers perhaps, but with just as much enthusiasm!

At the traditional "Horäschlittä" sledge race at Chuenisbärgli an old custom comes to life again: In earlier times hay would be stored on the mountain pastures in special containers called "Finneln" until the farmers brought it down to the valley on large sledges for the winter season.

From this old custom a race has been born, which is hard to beat for excitement or spectacle. Whether traditionally dressed in rough clothes and a hat, or in modern winter sports dress with helmet, every team tries on 19 February from 12am to complete the winding run in the shortest possible time. Serious spectators at the edge of the piste and those waiting at the finish guarantee a carnival atmosphere.
